Women’s golf program slated for 2017

Athletics director Jim Baker speaks from the podium at the First Pitch Banquet on Jan. 18, 2014 at Rangers Ballpark.

The first-ever women’s golf program will tee off at UTA in 2017, according to an announcement from university athletics Monday.

“Enhancing opportunities for female student-athletes is part of our mission here at UT Arlington,” athletics director Jim Baker said to www.utamavs.com. “The addition of women’s golf furthers our commitment to building and fielding championship-caliber Division I programs in each of our sport programs.”

UTA hasn’t seen an expansion in its athletics teams since 1983 when women’s tennis was added to the university.

Women’s golf will also mark the seventh program at UTA featuring female student-athletes. UTA has six programs with male-student athletes.
