Former UTA pitcher Joel Kuhnel is heading to the majors.
Kuhnel was called up from Triple-A Louisville by the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.
The 6-foot-5 right-hander spent two seasons with the Mavericks before being selected by the Reds in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

An 11th round pick by the #Reds in 2016, Kuhnel (KOON-uhl) posted a 2.18 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and .201 opponent average over 41 games (53.2 IP) between Chattanooga and Louisville this season.

While in the minors, Kuhnel compiled an 8-12 record with an ERA of 3.28.
So far this season, Kuhnel owns a 2.18 ERA throughout 41 games between Chattanooga and Louisville.
