Tennis senior Guanarteme Nuez earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season on Wednesday.

Two big singles victories propelled him to the award: a three-set win over Columbia University sophomore Jack Lin, who is ranked 11th in the country, and a sweep over conference rival freshman Antonio Muniz of Georgia Southern University.

Alongside doubles partner senior Mauricio Rio, the duo were perfect in doubles play, defeating No. 9 Columbia, Georgia State University and Georgia Southern’s No. 1 doubles pair.

Nuez has an 11-4 singles record this season to go along with eight doubles wins, the second most by a Maverick in both categories.

The men’s tennis team travels to the Carolinas over the weekend for Sun Belt play, facing Coastal Carolina University on Friday and Appalachian State University on Sunday.
