Community Voices columnists are selected by The Shorthorn editors at the start of each semester to be regular contributors for that semester. Columnists write a minimum of two opinion columns per semester and are encouraged to actively participate in social media conversations. They also participate in writing and issue-driven workshops.
What should I write about in my sample? A topic or issue of interest to the UT Arlington community.
I want to write about international affairs and why I think the other party is going to ruin America. Should I apply? Sure, as long as you are able to tie your opinions back to the UT Arlington community and the impacts on college students. This program aims to have a variety of voices on local, national and global issues that affect UT Arlington students.
How much does this volunteer position pay? It doesn’t. Benefits including having published work samples and improving your writing through workshops and networking.
