Police will serve the UTA community by instilling knowledge and awareness of safety issues in a national event.

UTA will host its 35th National Night Out from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 on the University Center mall. The event encourages the community to meet with their police department and foster a stronger connection between the two, UTA Police Capt. Michael McCord said.

“Protecting our campuses is everyone’s responsibility, and we should all be doing it together,” McCord said.

Police can address issues the community has through an open dialogue, he said.

Last year, UTA hosted about 1,000 attendees, with 50 organizations displaying information booths, according to a press release. McCord said he expects about 1,500 people to attend the event this year. Free food, prizes and games are available for those participating in National Night Out.
