A night to roast marshmallows, watch movies and camp out under the stars is the perfect way to get into the spirit of summer.

The Tents and Tales Camp-out, from 4 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday at River Legacy Park, offers a way for families to relax under the stars and take a break from all the technology.

The camp-out includes a dinner, a movie under the stars — Hotel Transylvania 2 — a sleeping bag story time, s’mores and an old-fashioned campfire sing-a-long.

“The Tents and Tales Camp-out is always one of our favorite events to host,” said Ernie Smith, facility manager at Elzie Odom Athletic Center.

She said she loves being able to take a break from technology and have a nice night for families to share and spend time together without distractions.

“It is a great event for families who want a quick getaway, and the kids always have a blast,” Smith said. “Everyone returns home with great stories from the camp-out.”
