The women’s tennis team swept Arkansas State University 4-0 in the first round of the Sun Belt Championship on Thursday in New Orleans.

UTA took the doubles point with a pair of 6-0 wins from seniors Angeles de los Rios and Jessica Birowski, sophomore Valeria Lopez and junior Agustina Serio.

Serio, Birowski and freshman Anna Wichert won their singles matches to seal the Mavericks’ win.

With the win, the No. 6-seeded Mavericks move on to the Sun Belt Championship quarterfinals to face No. 3 seed Georgia State University at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the City Park Tennis Courts.
