Women’s golf ties for 11th place in spring debut

Freshman Ava Schwienteck led the Mavericks at 9-over-par 222, tying for 14th during the team's spring debut at the Texas State Invitational in Kyle, Texas.

The women’s golf team made its spring debut at the Texas State Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Kyle, Texas.

The team concluded the event in a tie for 11th place along with the University of Louisiana at Monroe. The Mavericks posted scores of 312-308-306 for an overall score of 74-over-par 926.

Freshman Ava Schwienteck led the Mavericks at 9-over-par 222, tying for 14th.

Freshman Kate Tran followed behind in a tie for 48th at 21-over. Freshmen Madigan Murray and Sydney Garber tied for 52nd at 22-over while freshman Allison Wade placed 89th at 43-over.

Junior Rachel Phillips competed as an individual and her scores did not count toward the team’s total. Phillips withdrew from the final round because of illness.

The Mavericks will return to the course on Feb. 25 to compete at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic in South Carolina.
