The men’s and women’s golf teams opened their seasons in San Antonio, Texas, and Manhattan, Kansas, respectively.

The men’s team was declared co-champion of the Lone Star Invitational on Monday at the TPC Oaks Course in San Antonio. Junior Paul Gonzalez led the Mavericks with a third-place finish at six-under-par 210, which included a 74 in the final round of the tournament.

Junior Madigan Murray shot a 230 total as the women’s team placed 11th at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas, on Monday.

Murray tied for 30th place, while UTA posted scores of 316-308-324 to finish at 84-over 948.

Both teams will return to the course later this month and in early October. The women’s team will compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate on Sept. 28 in Palm Desert, California, while the men travel to Erie, Colorado, for the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on Oct. 7.
