The men’s tennis team cruised its way to victory over the weekend, claiming the UTSA Cup title on Sunday.

The Mavericks settled in to the tournament on Friday, picking up a 3-2 win in the opening round against the University of the Incarnate Word.

Singles wins from junior Enrique Pardo (6-3, 4-6, 10-4) and senior Mauricio Del Rio (6-1, 7-5), a 6-2 doubles win from the pair and a 6-4 win from sophomore Eduardo Simo and freshman Jakub Grzegorczyk lifted the team to victory.

UTA swept the courts on Saturday, winning all six of its matches. Pardo and Del Rio came out on top in their doubles match 6-4 along with Simo and Grzegorczyk, who won their match 6-2.

Heading into the finale on Sunday, the Mavericks dropped both doubles matches against the host team, but battled back in singles with help from Del Rio (6-4, 3-6, 10-6), Simo (6-4, 3-6, 12-10) and Grzegorczyk (6-4, 6-4) on their way to the tournament title.
