UTA will be represented in Team USA’s squad for The Match, a head-to-head track and field competition between the United States and Team Europe.
Track and field alumnus Cordero Gray was selected as part of the 4x100-meter relay pool.
Gray said he credits associate head coach Jordan Durham and everyone at UTA for his growth.
“It’s a blessing to get to compete there,” he said. “Hopefully I can go out there, compete my butt off and bring back the gold medal.”
Gray holds the third fastest times in UTA history for the indoor 200-meter and 60-meter races, and outdoor 100-meter dash. He broke school records for the latter two events in 2011 until being surpassed in 2015 by alumni Clayton Vaughn and Quentin Butler.
The Match will be held Sept. 9 through Sept. 10 at the Dinamo National Olympic Stadium in Minsk, Belarus. It is the last major athletics competition before the IAAF World Athletics Championships, Doha 2019 in Doha, Qatar.
