Men’s basketball alumnus Johnny Hamilton signed a one-year, partially-guaranteed deal with the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.
The 7-foot center from Rio Claro, Trinidad, announced the news via twitter. While Hamilton’s deal doesn’t secure him a spot on the Pistons’ 2018-19 roster, after training camp he’ll have a chance at joining their G-League team, the Grand Rapids Drive.
What a day to be alive. Thanks to the almighty, my family and coaches for having my back and helping me grow into the man I am today. I couldn’t do it without y’all. Thanks to the @detroitpistons for granting my first opportunity to be a Professional Athlete. pic.twitter.com/qByJ95cNP8— Johnny Hamilton (@johnny_tall) July 31, 2018
In his lone season at UTA, Hamilton averaged 11.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. He also set a program record for blocked shots in a single season with 77.
