I teased our Q-and-A with Michael Cera and Kat Dennings, the stars of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, in Thursday's paper — where I said I loved the movie. But I found that my recording of their Dallas roundtable interview was ... less than awesome. Someone used their cell phone to record the audio, so the frequency and random waves brought a lot of unwelcome status to my recording. I got this question out that I asked ... Last night you (at a Nick and Norah screening) said you read the script first and then the book. What other differences are there from the book? I looked it up and I know it said that Nick asks Norah (to be his girlfriend)… Michael Cera: Yeah, that’s right. Are there any other differences? Kat Dennings: There’s a lot more swearing in the book. Cera: Yeah, but it’s the same characters, same plot, same resolution. It’s little details, really. For the most part, the script was pretty true to the book. Dennings: It has the spirit of the book. Cera: And the book is written in a unique way. There’s a passage from him and then a passage from her. Dennings: And the authors were in Toronto, they saw the movie, they were on set with us … Cera: They’re in the movie. Dennings: … they’re in the movie, that’s right. They’re behind us when we’re in Basulka(?), a blonde girl and a brunet guy. That’s the authors. But they’re thrilled with the movie, so anyone who has beef with the movie versus the book can just stop. (Laughter) The authors are happy. More assembled quotes after the break ... Dennings talks about her YouTube blog, Cera doesn't know about an "Arrested Development" movie and more bits and pieces. Is there any significance to their names being Nick and Norah? Cera: I don't think so, don't think there's any homage. What are you guys doing next? Cera: I have a movie called Youth in Revolt coming out next year. Dennings: I have a movie called Shorts coming out next year. It's a Robert Rodriguez movie. Are you working with Edgar Wright? Cera: Yeah, next year I'm going to be working with him. Am I allowed to ask about Arrested Development movie? Cera: ...It's all hypothetical... but it's on IMDB (International Movie Database). Dennings: There's no script. Filming in New York, were people staring? Cera: There wasn't too much... Dennings: I think there was. Cera: Well, when you're driving in the car, you don't get a lot of people staring. Dennings: Yeah you do, 'cause you're in a little yellow car. (Laughter) People were like, "Hey, weird car!" ... It was late. The North Texas Daily reporter asks about Dennings' YouTube video blogs... Dennings: Yeah, I know (it's been) six months. But I want to add that Pete Sollett asked me to do a special video blog for the DVD, the Nick and Norah DVD featurettes. So for the past three months I've sort of been in anguish thinking about what to do. So I made it and I spent a lot of time making it, editing it and finessing it. I just turned it in and still have some audio to add (but) I showed it to Michael the other day. But I've been hard at work on a video blog, just not a video blog for YouTube, in defense of my laziness. Was there just the one Yugo? Cera: There were three of them. Dennings: And they weren't painted that way. More from the roundtable tomorrow, amigos. Views: 817 | E-mail
