The Mavericks are closing in on their second conference victory of the season as they lead the Cowgirls here at Texas Hall 12-6 in the fourth set.

The common theme on the night for the ladies at home has been playing smart and fundamentally sound.

Fans in the stands are clamouring for some free Papa John's Pizza and as one fan sitting directly behind press row said, "They need to win this one, my dog needs a walk."

Well put sir, well put. They do need this one, not just because, but to build on things for next season — and maybe a run at the playoffs this year.

The Mavericks now lead the match 2-1 after 26-24 set three victory here at Texas Hall.

McNeese State rallied and took the lead late but some crucial attack errors and service errors allowed the Mavs to win the set.

Looking at McNeese head coach Dale Starr, he is not a happy camper. Of course he's upset with his team for trailing in this match, but the other reason he might be a tad upset is because of the numerous blown calls by the referees.

Both sides have benefit from a no-calls on what have been some blatent errors.

The Mavericks have to take the fourth set one point at a time to secure a victory.

Somewhere about halfway through the third set the Mavericks lead the Cowgirls 11-7 and have continued to hitting the ball well and smart. They have only comitted two errors this set while McNeese have made seven.

McNeese looks sluggish here in the third set, something that has plagued the young Mavs all season long.

Two sets down and we're all knotted up at the Stage 1-1. The Mavericks lead early during the set, but some ball handling errors and few attack errors cost the them the set. McNeese won the set 25-19.

The Cowgirls outhit the Mavericks .324 to .179, a big reason why they won the set.

About midway through the second set, the Mavericks lead the Cowgirls 12-8 and are playing the smartest volleyball this season.

They have played through some pretty bad calls this set and have only committed one errors so far.

It begs the question, why havent they played this fundamentally sound all year long?
