The Sun Belt will be UTA athletics’ new conference home, pending approval by the UT Board of Regents on Thursday.
If approved, UTA will leave the Western Athletic Conference and join the Sun Belt in all sports on July 1, 2013.

UTA got off to a strong start in conference play last season, only to suffer a late skid and narrowly miss the Southland Conference Tournament.
The Mavericks held a 12-9 SLC record at one point in 2011 but were swept by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Lamar during a 2-11 stretch to end the season that included a 10-game losing streak.

DALLAS — The canon sounded early and often for Dallas Baptist University on Wednesday night.
Every time a Patriot batter belts a home run, the cannon at Patriot Field goes off. It went off five times against UTA in a 12-6 Mavericks loss.
