Intramural sports have been a staple for college life for many years, and it’s no different at UTA.
UTA offers students a large variety of team, dual and individual sports throughout the spring semester.
Registration for dodgeball, preseason basketball, basketball and bowling begins today.Intramural sports are fun, said Drew Barfield, assistant director for intramural sports.
“There’s something for everyone in intramural sports,” Barfield said.
Intramural sports are great for past high-school athletes who did not pursue college athletics or regular students who have no sports background, he said.
“Five-on-five basketball is one of the most popular spring semester sports,” Barfield said. He added that dodgeball is also a fun activity and will be the spring semester’s first sport.
Criminal justice junior Breanna Williams has experience in intramural sports. Williams played indoor and outdoor soccer, softball and basketball. She knows the benefits of intramural sports.
“Playing intramural sports here at UTA is the perfect way to meet people, stay in shape and have fun,” Williams said.
Another intramural sports veteran is criminal justice freshman Justin Spell. Spell played sand volleyball and flag football and loves the competition.
“I liked being on a team with friends competing against others from UTA,” Spell said.
Spell said sand volleyball, which is only offered in the spring, is a good workout and a great place to meet active people.
