Intramural 3-on-3 basketball finished up play last week with several teams being crowned champions, and flag football only has one week left before playoffs start in two weeks. The Shorthorn caught up with some key story lines in the two sports.
Intramural 3-on-3 basketball
In the men’s Interfraternity Council league, SigEp Varsity beat the SigEp Trophies 15-8 to win the IFC league.
The SigEp Trophies were 6-0 heading into the finals and beat SigEp Varsity 16-14 in the regular season matchup, but SigEp Varsity player, kinesiology junior Conrad Anderson said unlike the first matchup between the two teams, SigEp Varsity had an easier time.
“We were just making the shots we normally made.” Anderson said.
Anderson said it feels good to remain the top team in the IFC league because SigEp Varsity won intramural 3-on-3 basketball tournaments the last three years.
“Every sport earns points towards the sports trophy at the end of the year, and we just got a huge lead by getting first and second,” Anderson said.
The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity is now in the lead for the sports trophy after having SigEp Varsity and SigEp Trophies finishing first and second along with SigEP Elite finishing in fourth place.
Volleyball, soccer, football and softball are all competitions that determine who wins the sports trophy for the IFC league.
Intramural flag football
In men’s flag football A division, Sick Vicious won Monday night’s game 12-7 against Purple Haze Reloaded to improve its record to 3-1.
Sick Vicious had a goal-line stand at the end of the game to prevent Purple Haze Reloaded from winning.
Lafayette Dennis, Sick Vicious football player and marketing research graduate student, said the goal-line stand was huge.
“If they got it, we would have had only 23 seconds to try and score again,” Dennis said.
Sick Vicious will play its last game of the season next Monday against Always Scoring, which is 0-4, before the playoffs start in two weeks.
To Be Continued is still in first place with a record of 4-0.
Sick Vicious won the Intramural flag football tournament in 2009.
