The Maverick Fencing Club was unable to attend the Southwest Intercollegiate Fencing Association tournament on Oct. 15 in San Marcos because of traveling arrangements.
To travel outside the Metroplex, sports clubs must have at least two club members per traveling vehicle who have been approved by UTA as drivers for the club. The club did not meet those qualifications.
Club president, bioengineering graduate student James Drake, said the team should be able to travel to the second SWIFA tournament at the end of November. The location and date of the tournament have yet to be announced.
The club has gained the interest of additional people thinking about joining the 11-member fencing club.
Drake said people are still welcome to join the club.
“We are excited that people are interested in joining the team and hope that more people do so.” Drake said.
The club practices 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays in Maverick Activities Center Room 133.
