UTA community members catch Super Bowl XLVI

Super Bowl XLVI had some people in Arlington watching, working and multitasking.

Assistant retail manager Michael Holloman was on his laptop in Connection Cafe writing a recommendation letter while watching the game. Holloman said he wasn’t rooting for a team but just watching the game while writing.

The cafe showed the game on its TV screens and Holloman said it served game foods like chicken wings and hot dogs for students to get the Super Bowl feel.

Arlington Hall had a watch party for residents and non-residents to watch the game.

Business sophomore Derrek Hampton was in Arlington Hall’s great room passing out food and watching the game. Hampton said he rooted for the New York Giants.

“Because we’re in Dallas, I don’t think anyone is cheering for the Giants, they’re just more cheering against the Patriots,” Hampton said about his winning pick for the game.

Theater arts freshman Daniel Butureza said he was going for the New England Patriots.

“I’m a big fan of Ochocinco, and I just want him to get a ring,” Butureza said. Chad Ochocinco is a New England Patriots wide receiver.

Butureza said he was going to the watch party because he lives in Arlington Hall and there was free food.

Education sophomore Nicole Arreola worked during the Super Bowl as a bartender at J.Gilligan’s Bar and Grill.

She said this Super Bowl compared to last year’s was quieter. Arreola said if she had to choose a team to win, it would be the Patriots.

“Because Wes Welker is a badass,” she said.

There was a New York native in the Arlington bar who said why he thought his home team would win.

The giants have better defense, FedEx employee Jason Clute said.

“The Giants have been playing really well toward the final stretch,” Clute said.

His favorite Giants player is Jason Pierre-Paul.
