Multicultural Affairs will host five events from today to Feb. 27 to celebrate Black History Month.
Other black history events include a live radio broadcast, a film screening, dancing, a discussion on the evolution of hip-hop and a gallery exhibit connected to Multicultural Affairs’ theme of Black History, “Many Branches/Same Roots: Unified as One.”
Today
Multicultural Affairs will host “The Barbershop Hour,” a live radio broadcast discussing issues on race and identity. The event will take place 6:30 p.m. in the Maverick Activities Center Lonestar Auditorium.
Feb. 14
“A Night of Soul,” will feature the Dallas Black Dance Theatre. The event is co-hosted by the UTA African American Alumni Association and will be held 6 p.m. in the University Center’s Rosebud Theatre.
Feb. 20
There will be a film screening of ITALS State of the Black College StudentITALS featuring director Darryl Scriven 6:30 p.m. in the Lone Star Auditorium.
Feb. 20-24
“The Roots of Our History” gallery will open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 in the University Center Gallery and end Feb. 24. The gallery will include images of prominent African American leaders who helped pave the way for the African-American community. There will also be a gallery reception at noon Feb. 22. Students will present readings of poetry and speech excerpts from some of history’s notable African-American thinkers.
Feb. 27
The “Evolution of Hip Hop” will be discussed 7 p.m. in the University Center Palo Duro Lounge. Students, faculty and staff can learn about the history of the hip-hop movement while exploring its influence on fashion, music, dance and more. There will also be a live disc jockey.
