Lack of tailgating policy causes confusion at College Park Center

Enforcement of the tailgating policy, or lack thereof, was apparent early Wednesday night in front of the College Park Center.

Alpha Tau Omega fraternity
set up a disc jockey stand and displayed the large “ATO” letters in front of the fountains at the northwest entry to the center. But Student Affairs officials told them to take the letters down.

“You have to secure any space that’s around campus three days in advance,” said Carter Bedford, Student Governance and Organizations director.

Fraternity members were disappointed after thinking they would be able to set up and tailgate before the center’s grand opening but said they would accept the decision and move on.

“We found a loophole, which is that there is no policy,” psychology sophomore Navjot Singh said. “They asked us to move because it’s university property, so we’ll respect their decision.”

University officials have yet to set a tailgating policy for events in College Park Center.
