Phi Beta Sigma fraternity breaks the stage with winning performance in the Step Show

Baby powder was swept away on the Texas Hall stage as the winning step team stepped the crowd away.

Different organizations participated in the Breaking the Stage Homecoming Step Show Thursday.

Freshmen Leaders on Campus add another coat of school spirit

Cars lined up to get decked out with white polka dots, orange stars, and Maverick pride Thursday at the Arlington Hall turnaround.

Freshmen Leaders on Campus members hosted their annual “Paint Your Ride with Maverick Pride” event from noon to 2 p.m. Seventy-six cars were decorated to help showcase Maverick pride in preparation for the men’s basketball Homecoming game on Saturday. A wide variety of people ranging from Arlington residents to students went. Volunteers provided a free way to exhibit UTA spirit throughout the D-FW area with their cars.

Chili Bracket Bowl serves as warmth for cold students

Students gathered Friday on the University Center mall to warm up with a hot bowl of chili.

The Chili Bracket Bowl served as a event during Homecoming. Beta Theta Pi fraternity members Jeff Coulter, a kinesiology senior,  and Matt Morgan, a business junior, said they probably enjoyed the event the most since they won first place with their Beta Brew.

Students bundle up for Festival on the Plaza at Homecoming

The UTA community braced the 41-degree weather to witness the first Homecoming Parade to proceed down Pecan Street at the College Park District Saturday.

The Festival on the Plaza preceded the parade, which featured tents with games, food and beverages.

Cold can’t stop UTA school spirit at Homecoming

Despite Arlington’s winter-like weather, some students still said Homecoming 2012, the first Homecoming with the College Park Center, was full of school spirit.

Social Work senior Kwinetta Simien said she attended everything Saturday, from the Festival on the Plaza to the basketball game. In 41-degree temperatures, vendors lined Pecan Street and Moritz Plaza while singers performed near the College Park Center for a crowd clothed in coats and scarves Saturday afternoon.

Reunions reignite memories of attending UT Arlington

More than 70 years separate alumni like Louis Alexander and Omar Rosales, 2009-2010 Mr. UTA. But there are many similarities, Rosales said, after meeting alumni Saturday during a reunion that included alumni who had attained campus titles.

The two attended a reunion for the classes of 1962 and 1987 and Mr. and Ms. UTAs on Saturday afternoon as part of Homecoming.

The Bash grants students VIP access at Homecoming

College Park Center was open on Friday but not for a basketball game.

Music, pinwheels of food, digital photo sessions and live entertainment filled the night as students, alumni and guests celebrated the nightclub-themed The Bash from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
