Students with plastic in their pockets will no longer be turned away from dining areas on campus. Dining Services Director Paula Snider said that within six weeks, dining customers will no longer be limited to only paying cash for food. The Plaza, Connection Café and Java City will soon accept Visa and MasterCard. Snider said the decision to let students pay with credit was to help accommodate their needs. “We want to respond to students. Students have the best ideas,” she said. Before this decision, the only place in the University Center where students could buy food with a credit card was at the Market. “I’m glad the food diners are going to start accepting credit cards. It’s the best move ever. I would have eaten there more often, but I don’t carry cash,” said Najala Khan, development office student assistant. “I will eat there more often now,” Khan said. Some dining staff members and students believe it’s a great benefit not only for customers at the university but also for the business of the diners. “Hardly anyone carries cash anymore,” political science junior Jim Lostroscio said. “Everyone wants to pay with credit cards, and I believe it will also better business sales.” Tawney Roberts, Dining Services service manager, said she feels bad about turning away students who have no cash. “I will no longer have to say there’s an ATM by the post office,” she said. “It will be so much more convenient and beneficial for dining customers.” Dining staff, including Roberts, are glad they will no longer have to direct customers to the ATM. and students are excited they will no longer have to pay additional bank fees for ATM withdrawals. “I don’t like to go the ATM and pay an extra $1.50 bank fee for my lunch,” business sophomore J.D. Castillo said. “Being able to use my bank debit card will be much more convenient and cheaper for me.” Other students such as Michael McDonald, film and video junior, loves the idea of not only using his personal debit card but also being able to charge his lunch on a credit card. “This is absolutely wonderful now my mom and dad can pay for my food as well as my education”, McDonald said.
