An analysis of the university’s carbon footprint was recently released, a much-needed move toward increased awareness of UTA’s contribution to global warming.
While it would be easier to close our eyes and be blissfully ignorant of the environmentally negative impact the campus has, this important issue needed some light shed on it.
Impressively, the only other university to conduct such an in-depth analysis is Rice University.
While the carbon emission report card isn’t something you’d post on your mom’s refrigerator, the university ranked about average among other universities across the country.
But not all is lost.
The President’s Sustainability Committee is using the agenda they issued last month as a guideline to take steps to decrease carbon emissions. That definitely makes us breathe easier.
We want to thank Jeff Howard, President’s Sustainability Committee co-chair and School of Urban and Public Affairs assistant professor, and his graduate students for their work to reveal the stinging truth.
We also want to thank the university for taking actions to reduce their part in global warming. Views: 2097 | E-mail
