A UTA student died Thursday in Duncanville after a man fleeing a traffic stop collided with her vehicle. Psychology student Gladys Barrientos was traveling south on North Duncanville Road when the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe struck her vehicle at the intersection of West Wintergreen Road. Moments before, the driver of the Tahoe had been pulled over for a broken headlight, according to the police report. At about 11:40 p.m. an officer stopped the man on South Main Street after observing one of the vehicle’s headlights was not visible. As the officer approached the vehicle, the man accelerated and fled the scene. According to the report, the officer continued following the driver south, when he observed a cloud of smoke and headlights swerving across Main Street. Barrientos’ Honda Civic was pinned against a white picket fence and a wooden guard post. The responding officer could not see signs of breathing, according to the police report. Police don't know whether the driver of the Tahoe was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Barrientos was transported to Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas where she was pronounced dead at 12:29 a.m. on Feb. 5. There is currently a Facebook page dedicated to Barrientos called In Memory of Gladys Barrientos. Views: 1087 | E-mail
