Candidate for Student Governance and Organizations Director, Laké Laosbikan-Buggs responds to questions during an interview Thursday in the Student Congress Chambers. (The Shorthorn: Rasy Ran) Laosebikan-Buggs, former Student Union and Activities director at Florida A&M University, spoke at a public forum Thursday afternoon. She is one of three candidates vying for the post under the Division of Student Affairs. About 20 attendees listened to Laosebikan-Buggs and filled out surveys at the end of the presentation, which will be considered in choosing the next SGO director. Laosebikan-Buggs responded to an attendee’s question on why she wanted the director position by saying, “Why not now?” “You’re doing some big things,” she said. “If I waited for something else, what else would I wait for? This is the position that I think is right for me. So definitely now.” She said the top three things she would do in her first six weeks would be getting to know the students, the operations and assessing programs and to determine how to move forward. Laosebikan-Buggs also attacked the notion that participating in activities outside the classroom negatively impacts grades. “When you get involved with the university, you do better,” she said.
