Several main roads near campus were temporarily closed Tuesday as the Arlington Police Department honored fallen officer, Craig Story, who died in the line of duty last week. Funeral procession road closures caused some students and other motorists to run late Tuesday, but many said they themselves were honored to pay tribute to someone who gave his life serving them. One driver sitting in procession traffic called into radio station KLTY to say that although roads were backed up, it seemed to her everyone was patient. More than 3,000 people attended the service at Crossroads Christian Church in Grand Prairie at 11 a.m, church staff reported. A procession to Moore’s Cemetery followed immediately afterward. Law enforcement from all over the state and region attended Story’s funeral, APD media relations coordinator Tiara Richard said in an e-mail Tuesday. “Agencies that participated included Grand Prairie, Fort Worth, Dallas, Austin, Denton, Coppell, and many, many others from North Texas,” Richard said. “We also had law enforcement agencies from Oklahoma and other surrounding states.” APD said the procession traveled north on state Highway 360 from the church and exited Randol Mill Road. Road closures along the procession route began at approximately 11:30 a.m. and lasted until about 2 p.m. Story was killed when his motorcycle collided with an Arlington school bus last Wednesday morning. Story, who received 19 commendations since going to work for the police department, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the APD. Story, 34, is survived by his wife, Danielle, and a 2-year-old son. Views: 362 | E-mail
