University police issued its fourth assault bulletin of the semester Wednesday afternoon, just before the campus prepares for Thanksgiving break. ![]() A man told police he was talking on his cell phone at the Arbor Oaks Apartment parking lot just after midnight on Wednesday when he was struck from behind and then punched in the face, according to the report. The men, described as two African-American males of average and slim builds, ran away after the man fought back. Neither man said or demanded anything, according to the bulletin. The assault is the fourth of such incidents reported this semester and the third in a span of three weeks. While university police are investigating each case separately, police assistant chief Rick Gomez said the department has reason to believe the men could be the same. In three of the four cases, a man or group of men reportedly approach an individual talking on a cell phone, grab or ask to use the phone, and then assault the individual. Gomez encouraged the university community to “take precautions and ... avoid walking alone — especially at night.” Gomez said injuries sustained from the assaults range from knocked out teeth to bruising and swelling. Call 817-272-3381, or use the emergency call boxes on campus to contact the police dispatcher to request an escort. Views: 773 | E-mail
