Music and dancing filled the University Center Concho Room this weekend as the Indian Student Association kicked off their first Bollywood Night.

Students paid $5 to attend the event, which included live music, drinks and food like bhel (puffed rice), pakodas (fried potato), eggplant, onion or meat, and samosas (stuffed pastry).

Association historian Seema Gandhi said the event was the first of similar future ones by the organization.

“It’s something new and a way where we all can come together,” she said.

Tamanna Patel, association public relations officer, said the event was a way for students from the area to get together.

“It is a way to get everyone in ISA together from around the Metroplex to celebrate our culture,” she said.

Women wore traditional Indian outfits while men wore casual clothing. The event featured DJ Sandhu playing music from party to Bollywood-style music.

Biology freshman Pallavi Sharma said she liked the idea of a Bollywood-inspired event.

“I just thought it would be a fun way to meet new people,” she said.

The event also included Several students not a part of ISA attended, such as biology genetics senior Irene Lazarus.

“I wanted to get exposed to Indian culture and I also love to dance to anything with music,” she said.

Lazarus along with other students danced to a choreographed dance scene that looked straight out of a Bollywood movie.

Graduate marketing student Prashant Dwivedi said the music attracted him to the event.

“It’s a memory of how we danced to the music back in India,” he said.
