Hand sanitizer sales are up at the MavMarket and across the country during flu season.

Chee Wee Lee, Dining Services assistant director, said the Mav Market has increased hand sanitizer sales, but he didn’t know the number of bottles sold. Lee said the market offers both bottled and spray hand sanitizer.

Overall, hand sanitizer sales are up 17 percent this year, according to a Nov. 5 Daily Finance article.

UTA Bookstore director Bill Coulter said records of hand sanitizer sales aren’t kept.

Hand sanitizer can be found at multiple locations on campus.

Where to Buy

Hand sanitizer can be purchased on campus at:

“The school has provided two hand sanitizer dispensers in the Connection Café, two in the plaza and each retail location like Starbucks and the Market has its own bottle,” Lee said.

Biology freshman Tina Vu said she frequently uses hand sanitizer around campus and has noticed the dispensers are often empty.

“Having hand sanitizer would definitely help people get sick less often with the cold weather,” she said. “I think its important to prevent people from getting sick.”

Political science junior Kimberly Akinrodoye also suggested using hand sanitizer.

“With so many people in this school you need to protect yourself from germs, especially with the H1N1 virus,” she said.

Mechanical and aerospace engineering junior Patrick Craig said he doesn’t use hand sanitizer and thinks the increase in sales is a result of people trying to avoid panic.

“I don’t know anybody who got the swine flu so I think the campus is overreacting,” he said.
