The computer store will be moving in the spring to The Gallery in the University Center. (The Shorthorn: Meghan Williams) Materials from the store will be transported over the winter break. A permanent home in the UC has yet to be determined. Suzanne Montague, Office of Information Technology vice president, said the office decided to move the store to The Gallery so it would remain in a centralized location. University spokeswoman Kristin Sullivan said the move will put the store in the best place for students. The store is currently in Ransom Hall and will stay open in fall. “We’re looking for something that could be readily available and a quick and easy change for us,” Montague said. Bryan Sims, facilities management associate director, confirmed the move. Computer Store manager Pam Tremaine said she was excited to move to that location. “We’ll be in a more visual space,” she said. “That’s what we’re here for — service to the students.” Joshua Sherrill, a Campus Information Center employee and accounting junior, said he expects more questions from people about the store’s new location. The Information Center is next to The Gallery. He said he didn’t know if The Gallery had adequate space for the store and suggested moving it to the UC upper level. “It’s silly to put the store in there,” he said. “The space upstairs is huge and consistently used.” The Gallery hosts different displays, including the Day of the Dead celebration. Another location for The Gallery hasn’t been determined. Seth Ressl, Greek Life and University Events director, said putting the store in the space is acceptable as long as an alternative space for The Gallery is found. “I really hate to lose the visibility of The Gallery,” he said. “If another place for it is found in the UC, it would probably require some remodeling or sacrificing space for other things.” Ransom Hall is being considered for a student success center, where students can get one-stop services like tutoring, testing and advising. “We’re still in discussions about that,” Montague said. “We’re still trying to find solutions for existing things in Ransom Hall.” The Gallery will be painted and lights will be adjusted. Montague said she wasn’t sure how the university would let people know about the move.
