UTA Higher education 3,500 Securing number 83 on the list, the university was one of more than 1,000 North Texas companies that participated in the study used to rank 2009’s top 100 places to work in the area. Two other educational institutions made the list, with Southern Methodist University at 67 and the Parker College of Chiropractic at 78. The study involved more than 33,300 employees, who offered their opinions on their job environment. “Employees gave the university high marks for flexibility, benefits, and opportunities to learn and grow,” said Cheryl Hall, Dallas Morning News reporter. Hall and the newspaper partnered with Workplace Dynamics LLC in Exton, Pa., which puts together lists for other U.S. newspapers like The Boston Globe, Detroit Free Press and The Philadelphia Inquirer, said Doug Claffey, Workplace Dynamics’ chief executive officer. Employees were asked to respond to 22 phrases like, “I love my job because,” or “It’s easy to tell my boss the truth,” Hall said. Their responses were calculated and ranked by Workplace Dynamics, which specializes in employee retention, he said. “I have great support for exploring new opportunities that would benefit my organization and our community,” was one of the responses from a UTA employee, Hall said. According to the Dallas Morning News, the study included several categories, like advertising, construction, higher education, natural gas and Web publishing. All employees were interviewed, including professors, faculty and staff, Claffey said. “I enjoy working here and I think it’s a nice place to work,” said Lisa Muenzler College of Science lab assistant. “I really didn’t have any complaints. It’s a nice campus and I get to interact with a lot of interesting people and students.” Each company was graded in six areas: company leadership, execution and communication, employee advancement, management, workplace conditions and pay and benefit. “There are a lot of people that work here,” she said. “I think it’s definitely a very diverse place to work. Even at my age I still enjoy working here.” UTA is one of Arlington’s largest employers, said Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck. “The amount of people employed and the amount of money it brings to the area is very significant,” he said. The university’s economic impact is $400 million in Tarrant County, he said. Views: 365 | E-mail
