BlackFinn American Saloon4001 Bagpiper Way, Suite 101 Hours: 11-2 a.m. 817-468-3332 BlackFinn offers game day specials on food and beer Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays with contests. The broadcast communications senior normally watches the games accompanied by Shiner Bock, chicken wings and friends. He is a self-described die-hard Cowboys fan and said he loves football because of the adrenaline rush. “On any play the defense could snag an interception and run it back for a touchdown,” he said. “Or the running back could bust a huge run on third down to get the first. You never know what to expect on each play.” Jones said his favorite place to watch games is Buffalo Wild Wings. He enjoys watching with crowds because it gives him a group to celebrate with and he can feed off that energy. “Buffalo Wild Wings is always a good option because it’s always packed and the crowd there is guaranteed to be crazy,” he said. “I know that if I’m at Buffalo Wild Wings and the Cowboys win, there is going to be about 150 other fans celebrating with me.” Buffalo Wild Wings Grill and Bar1301 N. Collins Hours: 11-1 a.m., Monday-Thursday 11-2 a.m., Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-midnight, Sunday 817-860-2999 “Trash-talking is always the best part about sports,” he said. “But it’s hard to get really excited about a game when you’re sitting in your living room alone watching the game with no one else around to get excited with you.” Montiese Culton, former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver and Arlington resident, said sometimes being a fan is harder than being in the game because he can’t control the plays. He was hurt halfway through his rookie season and couldn’t travel with the team so he watched most of the games at BlackFinn American Saloon. “At BlackFinn the servers took time in getting to know me personally and I didn’t have to worry about running out of food during the game,” he said. “I would start to see the same fans every week and we became a football family.” Restaurants like BlackFinn, Houlihan’s Bar and Grill and Buffalo Wild Wings become a second home for fans offering wings, burgers and beer. Houlihan’s Bar and Grill401 E I-20 Hwy Hours: 11 a.m.-midnight, bar until 2 a.m., Monday-Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m., bar until midnight, Sunday (817) 375-3863 Houlihan’s happy hour is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday, at the bar, lounge and patio only. BlackFinn has invested in large high definition TVs that give fans a great viewing experience and makes them feel like they are on the field. “When football fans come to BlackFinn to watch the game, the first thing they will notice is the TVs, flat screen HD televisions are everywhere,” she said. “There is not a bad seat in the house. The atmosphere is high-energy and fun.” Chairs are lined up throughout the entire bar and TVs hang from the ceiling in the middle of the restaurant. They are positioned in a circle so games can be viewed from any seat. Communications sophomore Jazmyn Washington said she likes to watch the games at places with smaller crowds. She prefers Houlihan’s because of the drink variety and half-price appetizers during happy hour. “I love Houlihan’s because the servers know when to ask if you need more appetizers or drinks,” she said. “They normally only ask questions between downs or quarters. Plus, their drinks and appetizers are more upscale in comparison to a typically bar.” All photos by The Shorthorn, Morganne Stewart Views: 819 | E-mail
