Before the confirmation from CNN.com, several outlets conflicted in reports, some saying death some saying hospitalization. As the events unfolded, students watched and discussed the matter in a Lipscomb Hall’s common room. Three students sat near the TV at around 6:30 p.m. They said they’d been watching for a while, yet expressed shock. “I thought someone was joking,” philosophy senior J.D. Davis said. “I honestly thought someone was joking.” Pre-nursing sophomore Olusola Oyewuwo said there was and is still confusion. “It’s like when Bernie Mac died,” he said. Davis had other comparisons in mind, ones with more controversy over the manner of deaths. “It reminds me of Tupac and Biggie,” he said. Kinesiology senior Roger Sancho said it’s not just him that’s phased. “My mom’s probably freaking out right now,” he said. After two celebrity deaths this week, Ed McMahon and Farah Fawcett, some see signs of the old myth of celebrity deaths happening in threes. “Three in a row, that’s just creepy,” Davis said.
