UT Arlington redshirt freshman volleyball player Christy Driscoll was named a Second Team Academic All-Southland Conference selection on Thursday, as the SLC announced its 2008 Volleyball All-Academic Teams and Student-Athlete of the Year.

Central Arkansas sophomore middle blocker Chloe Smith was named the SLC Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year.

Driscoll, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Roanoke, Texas, was one of only four SLC volleyball student-athletes listed who currently have a 4.0 grade point average.

On the court, Driscoll became the first UT Arlington freshman since 1994 to post more than 100 total blocks. She tied for the league lead in blocks per set (1.11) in conference play, while finishing with the third most total blocks (108) by a UT Arlington freshman in the 36-year history of the program.

A pre-physical therapy major, Driscoll recorded two double-doubles this season, as her 10 total blocks in two different matches marked a team high. She had 10 kills and 10 blocks in home matches against Texas State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Driscoll also tallied 212 kills, a .243 hitting percentage and 0.95 blocks per set (led team) while being one of just two players on the team who played in and started every match and set during the season.
