EXCEL to host holiday event with contests

EXCEL will host its annual Holiday Celebration 6-8:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 in the University Center Palo Duro Lounge.

“Wrappers Delight” is EXCEL’s event theme this year, ranging from a “wrap battle” to a UTA Cribs gingerbread house competition, psychology sophomore Leslie Mack said.

“The ‘wrap battle’ is going to be like the old TV show ‘Supermarket Sweep’,” she said. “We’re going to let them run to a table and grab stuff from the table and they’re going to have a time limit.”

Mack said judges will select the best wrapped gift based on materials used and attention to detail. There will also be a timed gingerbread house contest. The winners to both contests will receive a Visa gift card.

She said toy bears will be available on a one bear per UTA Mav ID basis. Students can stuff the bear, put a “wishing star” inside, close it up and dress it in costumes.

There will also be materials for making ornaments.

“If they like, they can put it up on the tree that might stay in the Palo Duro Lounge,” she said. “That way the different organizations can be represented on the tree.”
