The LINK International Friendship Program needs community volunteers to befriend university international students. The program links international students with Arlington community members, students and staff to help them transition into a new culture. Julie Holmer, Office of International Education program coordinator, said the university enrolls 2,500 international students every year representing 100 countries, including India, China and Japan. Such students may spend four to six years in the U.S. without ever stepping foot into an American home, Holmer said. She said friendship partners are required to meet at least once a month for a year. Members encourage coffee and tea socials, picnics, celebrating birthdays and holidays, grocery shopping and learning to cook cultural meals. Those interested can contact Holmer at 817-272-2355 or e-mail jholmer@uta.edu. Views: 1383 | E-mail
