The Wire: Britney, Miley, Obama — what's to come in 2009? PDF Print E-mail

Who knew that some of 2008’s most popular stories in entertainment and pop culture would include the governor of Alaska, former train wrecks Britney Spears and Robert Downey Jr. and a resurgence of teen pop.

Even as those faces we’ve seen all year hit us up again in the waning weeks, to remind us they’re not dead or plug their new movie/album/reality dating show, it’s time to prepare for whatever craziness comes in 2009.

Shorthorn staffers Rueben Gonzales and Anthony Williams — who both graduate next week — look ahead and try predicting what stories will distract them from the fact that they’re getting old.

Williams:
2008 was a pretty big year.
Gonzales: Yes it was.
Williams: Obama, Palin, Britney, Miley...
Gonzales: And lots of babies being had by women, and men.
Williams: Ah yes. Here’s to 2009 being even more exciting/insane.
Williams: Do you think Britney will give an actual performance in the new year, and not just this blatant lip-synch and tough strut she’s doing?
Gonzales: I think if she’s smart she will INDEED lip-synch the hell out every performance she does, sans the slow ballads.
