Students quoted in Tuesday’s story, “Students favor 2-year tuition freeze bill,” remarked that a tuition freeze would enable them to take more hours and graduate sooner. Their comments made me concerned that all students might not be aware of UT-Arlington’s flat-rate tuition plan, which allows students to take any number of hours above 12 with absolutely no additional tuition.
This enables students to complete more hours each term at the same cost, thus allowing them to graduate and enter the job market sooner. Also, students taking at least 14 hours a semester and completing 28 hours with a 2.5 GPA will receive a tuition rebate of $500 a year for up to four years, as long as they continue to take at least 14 hours a semester and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. I strongly encourage all students to take advantage of these programs to help them graduate in four years.
