MTV has been critiqued often over the past years for lacking it's M. Ever since "The Real World" gave the network some of it's highest ratings ever, it's been banking on reality programming for, like, ever. (Like, I totally get Heidi and Spencer of "The Hills." Not.)
Well, if staying up to catch music videos around the 4 a.m. hour isn't your thing, you'll be ecstatic to know that the network has teamed up with Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz.
The result? "FNMTV," as in "Friday Night MTV." What were you thinking?
The show premiered last Friday, and the concept isn't completely new. VJ + live, captive audience + artist + world premiere video = "FNMTV" Or anything you've pretty much ever seen on MTV, BET, CMT, etc. What's new? More of a YouTube element.
You may have seen viewers' Webcam shout-outs on "TRL," but now fans can review the new videos or record their own version, and have their submissions possibly end up on MTV in primetime.
But props should still be given to Wentz for trying to make the music video what it once was: an event, to be recorded on VHS tapes for later viewing and sharing with friends when not discussing it.
Whie they're more likely to be stored on DVRs today, hopefully more artists will care about the videos they put out. Above you can see one of the four videos that "FNMTV" premiered Friday that I'm really digging., The Ting Ting's "Shut Up And Let Me Go." The concept's not exactly new (echoing previous efforts from The White Stripes and D.A.N.C.E., as seen on "FNMTV"), but it's hot.
After the jump, catch the new country joint Snoop Dogg premiered - yes, I said country - and let us know if you can love the music video again, whether you never stopped loving it, or if you want it to lose your number. Be first to comment this article | Views: 1386 | E-mail |
